A fun group has started up in Helensburgh for people with a dark little secret. The crocheters are coming out of the closet!
Started by Narelle Kendall, the first meeting attracted almost 30 people, ranging in age from 20 through to 65.
“I started to crochet after a severe panic attack,” she says. “It’s perfect for relaxation because it’s calming and rhythmic. I wanted to share these benefits with others so started a group in Engadine, but had a lot of people coming from Helensburgh so have started up a group here too! Turns out there are plenty of people like me out there with a dorkey little hobby!”
Narelle says the group is not just for experts. “It’s for people who love to crochet and for people who WANT to love it,” she says. “There are all skill levels represented. We chat and giggle while we help each other to learn more. It’s about sharing and teaching each other.
The Crochet Group meets at the Guide Hall on Wednesday nights from 7-8.30pm. The cost is $5 per week. You can bring your own project or Narelle has $5 starter kits available.
