The owner of Thirroul’s newest Italian restaurant wants you to feel like you’re walking into his Nonna’s house because Adrian Giuliani’s blood runs rich with Italian food, and Italian restaurants.
Unable to resist sharing his passion, Adrian opened Cin Cin Pizza Cucina Bar (where The Bar Next to Samuels used to be) bringing traditional recipes, his wealth of experience and his love of fresh, delicious food to the Northern Illawarra.
Adrian grew up sitting in his Nona’s kitchen, watching her prepare authentic, wholesome meals, and learning not only about traditional food, but about hospitality.
Adrian’s father Gulio and mother Diana are very much part of the history of Italian food in Wollongong.
Giulio decided the steelworks weren’t for him back in the 1970s and, with Diana and Adrian’s nonna they decided to open up Pinocchio’s followed by a string of Italian restaurants including Giuliani’
s in Warrawong, Costa Azzuro in Fairy Meadow, as well as Balgownie favourite Ilnido (which they still own).
Now, Guilo is a fixture at Cin Cin, helping make diners welcome, telling stories and bringing a personal touch to eating out.
“I’ve always loved Thirroul,” says Adrian. “I love the village feel and that it’s so family oriented.
“I’ve been looking to start something here for six years so when this place opened up I decided to go for it. It all came at a pretty crazy time for me, which included having a newborn baby, and running il nido but I knew if I didn’t jump in and go for it, I’d really regret it, and already I’m so glad I did!”
Adrian says they already have regular clientele who love both the food, and the atmosphere.
“Our biggest seller is the Truffle Pecorino Cheese Wheel Pasta,” he says, “which is literally pasta served in a hollowed-out wheel of cheese. But the arancini is also popular. So are the meatballs, as well as pretty much all of the pasta dishes.
“When it comes to pizza, I’d have to say it’s the potato, pancetta and spinach with our imported Italian wine or a peroni on tap or perhaps the Italian sausage and pecorino. We also have vegan and gluten-free options, which have also been really popular.
