Do you love the chilling and emotional music from a great movie, such as Far Over the Misty Mountains, the theme from The Hobbit, the violin theme from Schindler’s List, or the haunting music for Lawrence of Arabia?
Now you have the opportunity to hear these wonderful pieces performed by the Sydney Concert Orchestra in Wollongong on Sunday 30 July.
The Friends of Wollongong City Library will present From Book to Baton, a concert featuring music from books transformed into film.
The concert has been organised to celebrate 70 years of library services in the city.
The Sydney Concert Orchestra under the direction of Dr Steve Watson will present themes from Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Schindler’s List, The Mission, Psycho, Lawrence of Arabia and more at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre.
Wollongong City Council’s Manager Library and Community Services Jenny Thompson said great novels have provided composers with rich imaginative material for their compositions.
“This concert is a wonderful chance to listen to great music and then visit our libraries to either read or re-read the novel behind the music, or to borrow the DVD movie or CD soundtrack,” she says. “You’ll gain a greater understanding of the complexity of the novel as well as how a composer can bring the story and characters to life through music.”
