Yoga is amazing, and the beach is amazing- so it’s doubly amazing to be able to enjoy this ancient art in the great outdoors at Austinmer.
Body Balance Personalised Fitness has engaged the skills and wisdom of teacher Kath Watson who is now running several classes across the week, to allow us to regularly experience that post-yoga glow!
Kath began practicing Yoga almost 20 years ago at a studio in Tamarama, in Sydney’s east. “I was immediately hooked,” she says. “It allows you to feel great both physically and mentally. So I travelled to New York, London and Ireland where I studied with amazing teachers before returning to the iconic Dahma Shala at North Bondi.
I did my teacher-training at Yoga Arts in Bali before returning to the Dhama Shala as a teacher, where I worked for 8 years until our family moved to Austinmer.
“Yoga really grounds me”, says Kath. “Every time you step on the mat you learn a little more about yourself. Physically the benefits are incredible, but for me they are equally mental and spiritual. I always feel really connected and grounded after doing a yoga class.”
Kath says Yoga participants can expect a good stretch, as well as a sense of wellbeing, breath awareness and a connection with themselves.
“Most people come to a class for the first time looking to improve their flexibility, and that’s so important. It helps you maintain longevity in your fitness regime,” she says. “But in yoga, you also work on a much deeper level.
“Yoga gives you a beautiful physical workout, as well as regulating the breath. Overall you’re working your muscles, connective tissue, organs and you’re feeling a soothing outcome on your nervous system.”
We are so lucky to practice yoga outdoors and even luckier to be able to do it alongside the beach at Austinmer.”
You can attend Kath’s yoga classes at the following times. Everyone (including beginners) is welcome.
Classes are $15 or $35 if you want to attend all three sessions.
