The memory of much-loved local Cat Cowie lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, but none moreso than her husband Breno.
A part-time musician and Stanwell Park local, Breno felt the best way to honour his adored wife at her funeral was to write and perform a song in her honour.
Next month, that song will be available on iTunes.
“Cat always loved it when I sang and played, so it seemed the best thing to do for her,” he says. “I wrote a song and serenaded her at our wedding, however playing at her funeral was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It was all like a bad dream, but performing for her was the best way I could send her off.”
Breno is an accomplished singer and musician who plays with local band ‘The Lower Coast Skies’.
Now, with sole responsibility for raising son Ryan, it’s tough getting to practice, so he’s having to go it alone. “At the moment I work at The Tops Conference Centre, and music is part-time, but I treat it as a business, and would like to take it further,” he says.
“After the funeral, people told me how much they loved the song, This Love, and that I should record it, so I did. I’ve finished up in the studio, and it’s now being mastered, ready to go up on iTunes on April 2.
“Hopefully it brings joy and happiness to everyone who knew Cat. And it might touch a nerve with other people who have lost loved ones and are hurting. Music can help you get through.”
