APHEDA is the overseas humanitarian agency of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) which was founded in 1984. Its commitment is to social justice and international solidarity through programs committed to overseas education, training and international solidarity to eradicate poverty and achieve human rights.
The South Coast has it’s own group representing APHEDA and is holding its annual Barefoot Bowls Fundraiser at Scarborough Wombarra Bowling Club on Sunday 13th October 2013 at 3pm.
“Our South Coast Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA group has been going for 9 years and supports the wider development projects administered by the National body of APHEDA.” said Elizabeth Farrar, coordinator of the fundraising event. “We have a very loyal support base down here on the South Coast.”
“The proceeds from fundraisers, like this barefoot bowls, play an important part in ensuring that the work of APHEDA can continue. So come along and have some fun in solidarity with the workers and communities overseas who benefit from APHEDA’s projects.”
$25 ($20 students) includes entry, bowls and friendly bowling tutors to ensure there’s lots of fun.
