21 Illawarra artists have come together to think outside the square.
They’ve been presented with the challenge to produce an artwork that conforms to a strict 50 cm x 50 cm square.
It’s a concept put forward by the Illawarra Association for Visual Artists, to encourage composition skills and controlled rule-breaking!
And the artists say the square presents real challenges when it comes to creating something that works with such a dominant shape.
However, all 21 have risen to the challenge and produced a diverse array of paintings, sculptures, prints, photos and drawings which fit the format.
50:50 The Catalogue Show will bring it’s considerable artistic weight to Viva La Gong in Wollongong this weekend, and all artworks will be for sale.
Participating artists include Damien Bancks, Libby Bloxham, Judy Bourke, Catherine Carr, Tammie Castles, Julie Donnelly, Angela Forrest, Paula Gowans, Karen Hook, Penny Hulbert, Jennifer Jackson, Moira Kirkwood, Jennifer Portman, Deborah Redwood, Melissa Ritchie, Sue Smalkowski, Kate Steer, Greer Taylor, Vyvian Wilson, Mary Wingrave and TS Zaracostas.
You can have a look at their amazing work in Project Contemporary Artspace on Keira Street in Wollongong from November 11-22 from 10am-4pm.
There will be an artists talk on Saturday November 14 at 2pm.
