It’s happening again!
Work is set to re-start on the Austinmer Rock Pools from Monday.
The Southern pool will be closed for around two weeks, until at least March 12 (longer if tides and swells don’t co-operate) so contractors can prepare to replace the Eastern wall of the pool.
This will be done with purpose-built panels, the same as the Northern pool which will be installed between April 5 and 11.
Minor repair work will also be carried out to the Southern wall of the pool.
Council will only close the Northern pool if it becomes unsafe for swimmers, including when the rear wall panels are craned into place.
Council’s infrastructure Director Mike Hyde says the use of pre-cast panels has been successful in the Northern pool so it’s exciting to use that same process in the Southern pool.
“This has been a very challenging project due to the unpredictability of the tides, seas and swells. I thank the community for their patience while we complete this important work that will help preserve these historic ocean pools for all swimmers.”
