Congratulations to Coledale’s Susie Crick who has been honoured with an award from Wollongong Council for her ‘Contribution to the City’s Ocean and Marine Environment’.
Susie lobbies tirelessly on behalf of our oceans. She is an active member of the Surfrider Foundation, organises local Beach Clean Ups, and was responsible for the Clean Beach Festival at Port Kembla last year which is set to become an annual event.
“I wasn’t aware I was getting an award,” says Susie. “It was a complete surprise. They asked me to speak to the ceremony about what I do, but I had no idea I was to receive anything!”
Council holds the event to recognise community-minded residents who have performed outstanding accomplishments. They celebrate community service, volunteers and other civic achievements.
Last year’s festival brought together 16 environmental organisations and hundreds of community members in a bid to educate people about caring for our ocean and reducing the amount of plastic we use.
“Council was right behind the event and have agreed to help fund this year’s festival, which means we can make it even bigger.”
