It’s been a massive year for Austinmer Dance Theatre, with the locally-based company recently honoured with a CRITIC’S CHOICE award at the Sydney Fringe Festival for the dance company’s performance of CONNECT.
Austinmer Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company bringing together some of Australia’s leading young dancers from both NSW and interstate.
“We’ve had an amazing 2018,” says company director Michelle Forte. “We are just back from the Melbourne Fringe Festival and have been nominated for an Ozdance Award, which celebrates the best in the country”.
Michelle says the recognition is the result of the group’s hard work, dedication and commitment.
“We are being recognised all over the country as a force to be reckoned with in contemporary dance.
“The dancer’s energy is phenomenal,” says Michelle. “In every performance, and in the success of the company as a whole. They’re committed and invested and have 100% faith in the group’s success.
Austinmer Dance Theatre is now preparing for their uNCOILED 2018 which will be performed at Coniston’s Phoenix Theatre from October 25-27.
“Next year is going to be just as big,” says Michelle. “We are hoping to perform at the Australian Youth Dance Festival and a site-specific work for Merrigong X. We have productions in May and October and are also hoping to squeeze in a performance at the Jacob’s Pillow Festival in the United States, and the Sydney and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.
And while Michelle attributes the company’s success to a mix of sweat, love and passion, she’s also open to new sponsorship, saying financial support would not go astray!
