Don’t want to scare you, but now is as good a time as any to order your Lions Club Christmas Cake!
The Lions Club of Thirroul is a quiet achiever working within our community.
Active for around 60 years, they’ve raised more than a million dollars which they have returned to locals in need. They also run a cottage at Austinmer which is used to accommodate rural families, offering them a much-needed holiday.
Currently there are around 30 members who meet regularly at Ryan’s Hotel at Thirroul to plan the Lion’s next fundraising campaign, and decide where the money will go. They also run the raffle every Friday night, and are active organisers of the Seaside Festival.
Now it time to talk about Christmas!
Ken Murray has lived in Thirroul for 45 years and runs Ken’s Cones, a local ice cream van. He’s seen first-hand the valuable work the Lions do, and has agreed to take on the job of Cake Co-ordinator.
“Our cake campaign has begun for 2015,” he says. “Businesses buy them as staff Christmas presents, and lots of locals buy them as gifts or just to have on hand for Christmas get-togethers. Most importantly 100% of the money raised goes back into our local community.
“We want everyone to know they can buy a top-quality Christmas cake from us, and all of the money will help local families.”
Orders are now open. To order yours, call Ken on 0411 242 007, message him via Facebook or email firstname.lastname@example.org
