A group of local lobbyists will this week visit the office of Cunningham MP Sharon Bird, delivering postcards, and calling on the Australian Labour Party to reverse it’s policy on the offshore detention of asylum seekers.
The postcards were signed at last weekend’s ‘Close the Camps’ forum at Wollongong Town Hall, where 450 people gathered to oppose the plight of asylum seekers under current legislations.
The postcards call on Labor to close the detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru and bring the refugees to Australia, ceasing it’s bi-partisan support for off-shore processing.
All supporters are invited to gather at Sharon Bird’s Office, 72-74 Crown Street Wollongong at 12.30 on Friday November 18 to deliver the postcards.
