Keira MP Ryan Park is calling for the scheduled closure of Lawrence Hargrave Drive to be postponed as we struggle to deal with the Coronavirus.
His calls come amid growing concerns that the closure will sever critical links between medical professionals and their patients, which may make house calls impossible.
“This is the wrong time to be cutting doctors off from sick patients,” he says. “The extra time it will take for doctors and patients to access each other has the potential for very serious consequences.”
Mr Park says local businesses are also at risk, facing the combined fallout of a devastating bush fire season and now the global coronavirus pandemic, which, combined with the added pressure of closing of Lawrence Hargrave Drive in June may force many small businesses to close.
Mr Park says he is supportive of the slope stabilisation work going ahead at an appropriate time however the onset of the coronavirus pandemic has changed the reality facing local businesses.
“I’m asking the Government to review the decision to close Lawrence Hargrave Drive in June and reschedule this work after the pandemic subsides.”
“This is an unprecedented situation that requires us all to play our part and be adaptable and creative in our problem solving. I think it is reasonable to reschedule the work under the current circumstances.”
