Three surfers got more than they bargained for from their morning surf this morning when they found themselves up close and personal with a large shark.
Two men and a local teenager were sitting out the back when they commented on the birds feeding off what appeared to be a school of fish not far from shore.
Within minutes, a large fin popped up just a meter from where the group was sitting.
“It sort of cruised past- not arching like a dolphin,” says the teen. “I’ve seen loads of dolphins but this one just glided by. The fin had a notch in the front and you could see that it was probably a bit bigger than me- so maybe two meters long.”
All three of the surfers saw the shark and were quick to exit the water.
“I’m still keen for a surf this afternoon, ” he says. “But maybe not at Austinmer!”.
