A public meeting will be held at Coledale Community Hall this weekend to discuss our lack of public transport, and drivers using Lawrence Hargrave Drive through Clifton and Scarborough as a racetrack.
Labor candidate for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart has facilitated the meeting, which will bring together residents, Shadow Transport Minister Jodi McKay, Keira MP Ryan Park and Wollongong Deputy Mayor Councillor David Brown.
“The train timetable changes on Sunday,” she says, “and there’s not one extra train for the Northern Illawarra. Despite years of lobbying, nobody is listening so it’s time we all banded together to take the conversation up a notch.” (You can read more about that HERE)
Maryanne says she wants the people of the Northern Illawarra to know she is listening and this conversation will form the basis of future policy development.
“This Government has been in for six years and still we are waiting for improvements to the trains network. Even though the weight of population for the seat of Heathcote is out of this area, the people of the Northern Illawarra are just as important and deserving of time and effort!”
The meeting will also discuss speeding along the Northern end of the road (before it becomes a parking lot at Austinmer/Thirroul). More on this HERE
Residents living around Fifth Street at Scarborough are calling for urgent action before someone is killed by one of the many speeding drivers losing control on their bend.
“These people are concerned for the welfare of their families,” says Maryanne. “They have children refusing to sleep in front bedrooms for fear a vehicle will crash through their homes. They want action but until now, nobody has been listening.”
The meeting will be held at Coledale Community Hall at 2pm on Saturday November 25.
