Thirroul SLSC and Sandon Point Boardriders are among many mourning the loss of local surfing personality Bobby (Robert) Dryden.
A tribute will be held today (Friday November 6) at 2pm at Parsons at Bulli, with a celebration of his life to follow at Thirroul Surf Club.
In an amazingly community-minded gesture, in lieu of flowers, the Dryden family has requested donations to TSLSC to help his daughter and the Youth Team attend the 2016 World Championships in The Netherlands.
The following is a tribute from Sandon Point Boardriders Facebook …
“It’s with great sadness that I say Today we lost one of our own…
A true gentleman and really community minded person and the eternal surfing grom at heart.
Unfortunately Bobby Dryden lost his courageous and galant fight with a terrible disease this morning!
In true gentleman style he took the fight head on with a minimum of fuss and burden to anyone else! Bobby is and was a legend of thirroul and a most outstanding example of community minded individual you would ever have the pleasure of meeting.. He was a wonderful father to Tom & Kate and outstanding husband of jackie.
He was one of SPB riders finest and will be greatly missed by us all!!
Rest In Peace Bobby D”
