Brett, who works in DP Surfboards at Thirroul, lost a chunk of his leg and suffered injuries to his hand in the attack at Bombo.
Brett is still recovering in St George Hospital, where he is beginning to take a few tentative steps. However according to recent posts on his ‘Surfers For Bretto‘ Instagram, the surgeons have stopped him standing and hopping on his good leg as they’re concerned about the stability of the transplanted muscle in his thigh.
Shark experts from the Department of Primary Industry have analysed photographs of the bite marks saying they’ve determined the shark involved was a Great White, estimated to be between 2.6 and 2.9 meters in length.
Meanwhile, the local community is getting behind Brett, who will need extensive rehabilitation to get him back on his feet, and in the water.
Donation jars and tins have sprung up right across the Northern Illawarra, encouraging us to throw in loose change. And they all seem to be filling fast, including this one pictured in the Big Star Cafe at Coledale.
In addition, the Local Artists Division has produced a range of t-shirts which reflect Brett’s love of The Simpsons. They are now available HEREhttp://www.localartistdivision.com/#/april-5-brett-connellan-the-campaign/
Meanwhile Soul Arch Surfboards is creating a 7″ single fin which will be glassed by DP. The board will be raffled. More details soon on where those tickets will be available.
