There are renewed calls for a review of policing in Helensburgh following claims by residents of a sharp increase in the number of local crimes.
Labor candidate for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart has visited the town where she w as told of 45 incidents of crime in a single week, including cars stolen from driveways.
She’s placed a petition in local shops and says already it’s collected hundreds and hundreds of signatures.
“Helensburgh had more police 67 years ago than they do today,” she says. “It’s important we bring back a manned police station.”
Maryanne says locals told her there’s little point reporting crime because perpetrators have left the village before officers can make it back, however she says it’s vital all incidents are reported.
She has also organised a visit with Shadow Police Minister Guy Zangari so he can see first-hand the need for greater security.
There are a few things local can do to let the Government know we need more police,” she says.
“You can sign the petition, you can attend the public meeting with Guy Zangari and most importantly, you can report EVERY incident of criminal behaviour. It’s these statistics that will count when it comes to a review of police numbers in Helensburgh.”
