After years of sightings, a local resident has captured footage and photographs of an enormous black cat wandering through bushland in Helensburgh.
This may be the first-ever footage of the legendary Northern Illawarra animal, filmed as it meandered along a trail near Cemetery Road.
There have been numerous sightings of a big cat right along the escarpment, but until now, nobody has managed to get a good shot of it.
“It was hanging around long enough for me to grab my phone and take some photos and videos,” says the local businessman. “It was much bigger than a regular cat- which is why it caught my eye in the first place.”
Although it’s hard to gauge the size of the big cat, from it’s relationship to the besser-block retaining wall (to the right of the cat) the animal appears to be around 200mm across the back- much larger than an ordinary cat.
