Wollongong City Council will donate $10,000 to the Australian Red Cross Drought Appeal, helping Australian farmers and communities affected by drought.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery says we are a community that supports others during challenging times. “We feel this donation on behalf of our community recognises the challenges faced by farmers and their families. It’s a way we can say ‘we’re with you’.’’
Individuals can also support the Australian Red Cross’ appeal by visiting the website.
Council is also able to provide rate relief to Illawarra drought affected farmers and families under the Debt Recovery & Hardship Assistance Policy.
Under this Policy, rate payers can enter into a payment arrangement to pay outstanding rates and charges over a period of greater than 12 months, or be granted a moratorium up to 90 days for a group/area of ratepayers affected by a natural disaster or significant event.
