The Creative Lives 2013 exhibition will be launched on the 29th June at the ART Arena Galleries in Market Street in Wollongong.
A major event showcasing the works of local artists involved with Peter’s Art Group, based in Moore Street Austinmer.
The exhibition is to celebrate the students and their works, and to commemorate Peter’s twentieth year of art teaching, exhibiting and showcasing students works in the Illawarra.
“In the beginning the classes were conducted in Community Centres and Licensed Clubs – we decided to establish a permanent home for the group at Austinmer in a Studio so the artists could work and create in a more inspiring environment.” said Peter Bate, who has been teaching art in the Illawarra for over 20 years, “In the coming years, we will concentrate on developing further in various mediums and subjects – we have always maintained a communal contribution approach, so everyone has an input in our creative direction.”
Peter has taught landscape and portrait painting techniques, to hundreds over the years from all walks of life and many ages.
The classes have provided art teaching outside the square from scout groups to HSC Students preparing for exams, while for other students painting and expressing their art is a recreational leisure activity.
“I personally could not have chosen a more satisfying career path, to see what others have produced and knowing that I have been part of their journey is very gratifying.”
The exhibition runs from 24th June to 6th July – come along to meet the artists and see some fabulous local art.
