Titled “BlockAid”, the evening aims to raise funds for a community blockade should residents deem it necessary to peacefully block work on the local CSG project if any work should start.
* A royal commission into the impacts of CSG development
* A ban on fracking
* A ban on CSG development in drinking water catchments
“If the NSW Government fails to protect our drinking water and work starts on the local CSG project, this community has vowed to organise a community blockade.” said organiser Chris Williams, “We will only take this action if the Government leaves us with no other option. The blockade will be peaceful and very well organised and we will work with police and emergency service crews to ensure the site is safe for participants.”
“To ensure the blockade is effective, we need to raise funds to cover a range of costs – from hiring portable toilets and shade covers to adequate sound system. BlockAid is a chance for campaign supporters to enjoy some wonderful local entertainment and help out the cause.
The bands performing at the event include Alotta Presha, Beat Meisters, Sweet Lime, Michele Madden and The Merchants. Tickets are just $20 per person ($15 concession) and can be purchased online at http://stop-csg-illawarra.org/2013/blockaid-gig/ or at the door.
