If you want to know where to get the best cup of coffee in Thirroul, ask Alex Urena. Alex loves a good coffee as much as he loves designing houses to look and feel twice their size.
Mr Urena, a Peruvian architect, now based on the Sea Cliff Coast said: “With a house, you’re touching the land, so it’s important to merge into the surroundings. I bring the outside in, improving the indoor-outdoor relationship, this opens up the area and makes you feel more connected to what’s outside.”
After meeting his Australian partner in Peru and arriving in Australia in early 2010, the coffee connoisseur immediately noticed the similarities between the two countries; in particular the rich diversity of geography – the desert, the bush and the ocean.
While his penchant for making small areas look large is widely known, he also has a passion for putting a big smile on the face of his customers.
“A better result doesn’t necessarily mean a bigger budget. It’s about being clever with the materials available and providing not just an aesthetical solution but a complete living experience”.
Mr Urena’s most recent designs have resulted in happy Sea Cliff Coast customers in Bulli and Scarborough.
He said: “One of the best compliments I’ve received lately was from a client, who on seeing my finished work for the first time said: ‘Wow, Alex, it looks like the house belongs, it looks like it has been here all the time’.”
