Huge changes for Coledale this month.
The team from Fifty 5 Parrots in Fairy Meadow, which also owns Coledale’s Earth Walker, has bought the Newsagency and is leasing the building, which includes Big Star Cafe.
The new owners are three young women who grew up and live in the Northern Illawarra who are taking a risk on this exciting project.
They’re planning to enliven the business, keeping the newsagency and expanding to become a re-invigorated general store which will include bread, milk, fruit and veg, as well as artisan breads and gourmet local produce.
One of the three owners, Bianca Poscoliero, says they’ll gut the building and carry out a major re-vamp. “We have been listening to locals and tourists since we moved in to Coledale and are confident we can give people what the area needs. We will also open a whole new cafe which will include juices, salads and a take-away menu.”
The sad news however is the changes mean Big Star Cafe will close.
Big Star’s coffee is up there with the best in the Northern Illawarra, but they cosy little cafe is at risk of closure unless they can find a new home.
Owner Nathan says they have investigated the old ‘Aces’ premises, however that is not a possibility.
The potential closure of Big Star has devastated their loyal ‘community’, which has fingers and toes firmly crossed the family can find somewhere equally as charming to re-establish their business.
Big Star will close on September 19.
Work to renovate the building begins at the end of September with the exciting new general store set to open by the end of October.
