There will soon be a change of scenery for Helensburgh commuters.
A new steel canopy is to be erected over the footbridge, stairs and part of the platform!
Heathcote MP Lee Evans says the canopy will not only protect commuters from the weather, it will also keep the steps dryer, and therefore they’ll be less slippery on rainy days.
“It will also mean people spread more evenly along the platform,” he says, “which improves access to the carriages and helps trains run on time.”
Design work is already complete and the contract is expected to be awarded by early next year, with construction to begin soon after, subject to Heritage approval.
“Encouraging more people to use public transport has and always will be a big priority for this government,” says Mr Evans.
