Got an idea for a cultural event or maybe you have a band or a choir that could use a bit of a financial boost?
Wollongong City Council’s applications for Financial Assistance is now open.
Over the years this program has helped many community groups create vibrancy within the city.
Council’s Financial Assistance Program has helped many community events including Spring into Corrimal, Honk Oz, Mountain to Mountain Challenge and Sky’s the Limit – Mini Olympics.
To assist individuals and groups with their applications, Council will hold an information session on Monday 18 February from 12.30 to 1.30pm. To register for a session visit Council’s website.
The Small Cultural Grants program is open to community arts organisations and Not For Profit groups in the Wollongong Local Government Area that support music, performing arts, visual arts, crafts and other cultural initiatives. Organisations can apply for grants up to $4,000. Community arts organisations or groups can also apply for seed funding of up to $1,000 if they have been established for less than three years.
The Sponsorship of Community Events program is open to organisers of community events that can demonstrate a benefit to the community. Community groups can apply for grants up to $15,000. These can include city-wide, general community and sporting events of state or national significance.
Community-based, Not For Profit bands and choirs are encouraged to apply for up to $2,000 from the Contribution to Bands and Choirs grant. Group membership is open to the community. School bands and choirs are not eligible.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM says Council has been supporting the community events, bands and choirs and cultural programs for more than a decade.
“We wish to continue to support community groups and individuals who add to the colour, fun and vibrancy of our city,” he says. ” These are the groups who can make a little assistance go a long way by bringing us interesting and exciting projects.
“We encourage people to check out the criteria and give it a go.”
