Flame Tree Co-op is sponsoring a dairy cow!
They’ve responded to a call for help from Country Valley Milk’s John Fairley who has asked for donations to help feed his cows until Spring. You can read that story in the Wollondilly Advertiser HERE
John says he has 130 cows and each one will cost $1350 to feed until September. He says he can’t do this without help.
Country Valley at Picton is one of Flame Tree’s suppliers, so the Thirroul co-op has opted to pitch in and come up with the $12 a day it will take to hand-feed the cow until the Spring rains.
Flame Tree spokesperson Carla Spurling says they’ll sell off older stock and donate the proceeds and will also accept donations via a tin on the counter.
“One of the core values of the co-op is to look after our suppliers,” she says. “They’re part of our community and they’re currently doing it tough. John’s 83 year old father says the drought up there is the worst he’s seen, and even if it rains now, the grass won’t grow until Spring, so we want to do what we can to help.
“We have called her ‘Flaming Beauty’, in honour of the co-op,” she says. “Flame Tree is a community and we know all of our suppliers personally, so we do what we can to look after them.
You can donate to the tin at Flame Tree, pick up some of their ‘charity veggies’ .
