This ‘renovators delight’ has been closed for business since 2003, when a landslide blocked Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
Following the opening of the Seacliff Bridge, attempts to re-float the business have failed amid conflict with neighbours concerned about noise and traffic implications. So the grand old pub, with views rivalled only by the uber-successful Scarborough Hotel just down the road, remains boarded up and derelict.
A DA lodged with Wollongong Council for the Imperial to operate as a hotel again has been approved. It’s also zoned for residential us, so the site is expected to generate a lot of interest.
WIN Corporation has owned the hotel, on the 2600 square meter block, for more than 20 years. They no longer have use for the site, so have engaged Colliers International in Wollongong to take it to auction.
The auction will be held on-site on Saturday March 14.
