There are more guns in the Northern Illawarra than most people would imagine.
There are 177 registered gun owners in 2515, and between them, they have 648 registered firearms, with one resident owning 32 guns.
In 2508 there are another 251 registered gun owners and 811 firearms, with the largest an arsenal of 27 guns.
The figures, released this week by the Greens, show ordinary residents (not including dealers and collectors) are stockpiling firearms, prompting the call for tighter gun laws.
The NSW Police statistics, obtained under Freedom of Information, show just down the road in 2518, which takes in Bellambi and Corrimal, one resident possesses one of the 100 largest private arsenals in NSW, owning a startling 139 guns.
In that area, 344 people own 1240 registered firearms.
