If you want to grow your own food in a sustainable way and you live in Otford, Stanwell Park, Stanwell Tops, Coalcliff, or Helensburgh, join the Otford Community Garden! The Garden is organising two permaculture workshops on Saturday 11 and 25 of May 2013 for members and their families. A Winter Solstice celebration will also take place on the Saturday 22 of June to open the new garden.
Workshops are coordinated by Narelle Harp, from A Garden From Life. With the help of a few experienced and beginning permaculturalists, everybody will learn how to build no-dig garden beds, what to plant where and practical tips on how to apply the principles of Permaculture in the Garden. Lucy Lee, from The Art Box will also help us educate and entertain the kids with garden-related activities.
There will be something to do for everybody including kids.
‘We have been very lucky this year. With the help of Wollongong Council and Landcare grants, we can now dream about having a garden big enough to grow a decent amount of food’ says Gaetane, President of the Garden Association. ‘This has been a great adventure and we are happy to be soon ready to open the door of a Northern Illawarra community garden. We have more than 30 sq metre to prepare with a great location and facilities’. ‘The garden is managed by the community with 2 working bee a month and a few rosters for jobs like watering. We all have families and a busy schedule, but this garden bring us together, to learn, grow, create and make the most of this great land where we live’.
Saturday 11 May: starts at 11am, the day will be organised around creating the beds and surrounds, and preparing garden decorations. Permaculture experts will answer your questions.
Saturday 25 May: planting seeds and seedlings, and there will be creative workshops with The Art Box for the kids.
Saturday 22 June: Winter Solstice and Garden opening: Kids workshops, talks by local Seed Saver Greg Cook, music and circus (if weather permits).
