It’s time again to declutter your home, discover the ‘Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up‘, and get rid of your ‘excess’ in a sustainable way.
Wollongong Council is calling for community members to go all KonMari on your house and garage and join in the Garage Sale Trail on 21 – 22 October 2017.
Households, community groups, charities, local businesses and schools can register to participate in one or two days of the event – it’s a great opportunity to clear some space, and meet the neighbours!
Council’s Promotions Coordinator Fiona Netting said: “Council has been participating in this event for four years, and every year more and more people are getting involved. The event not only helps our environment, but brings our community closer together.”
Run by Australian not-for-profit Garage Sale Trail Foundation, the event exists to create positive social and environmental change in communities across Australia. It is powered and made possible by over 150 local councils nationally. An idea that’s good for the planet and good for the community too.
Co-founder of Garage Sale Trail Darryl Nichols says in previous years, the people of Wollongong have really embraced the idea. “In 2016 the average seller in Wollongong sold 73 items and participants met an average of 28 local community members throughout the day,”he says. “Best of all, 79% of participants say they were more conscious of the role they could play in decreasing the waste they generate.”
Registration is free and open now. Whether you are on the hunt for preloved treasures, or wanting to declutter, this weekend event will allow you to help the environment in a fun and social way.
