Work has begun on a shareway bridge at Stoney Creek, Coal Cliff marking the start of construction of the Grand Pacific Walk (GPW).
Stage One of the GPW (Coalcliff – Stanwell Park) is considered one of the most challenging with narrow roads, steep terrain and no provisions for pedestrians and cyclists.
The works currently underway will see the construction of a shared pathway next to the existing Stoney Creek road bridge, providing safe access along this part of the route.
Stage One of the Grand Pacific Walk has been allocated $5 million through the NSW State Government’s Restart Illawarra Program, with $250,000 worth of work scheduled this financial year.
“This is a long term project and we still have a long way to go but to see work commence on the shareway bridge at Stoney Creek is a milestone that should be celebrated,” said Cr Bradbery.
