The NSW Rural Fire Service will conduct a hazard reduction burn in the area around Stanwell Tops on Saturday July 29 and Sunday July 30.
The burn-off will take place between Annesley Rd, Plateau Rd and Lawrence Hargrave Drive, weather permitting.
Around 80 firefighters will work on the burn, which is expected to cover around 17 hectares. Bulk water tankers will also be in attendance.
Illawarra District Manager, Superintendent Greg Wardle says hazard reduction is vital in helping reduce the intensity of future bushfires. “These controlled burns will help protect properties and assets in the Stanwell Tops area and also assist our firefighters to control any future bushfires in the area.
“We advise residents to keep windows and doors closed, remove washing from the line and make sure pets are protected.
“Motorists should slow down and take care when driving through smoke, keep windows up and put on your headlights.”
