After years travelling the world, painting and surfing, Matthew Gillett has returned to the south coast of NSW to pursue his own passion for art and create a space to exhibit some of the truly amazing works of artists across the region.
On Monday 22nd April 2013, the Matthew Gillett Gallery will throw open its doors to a swathe of locals, dignitaries and media to celebrate local talent in one of the South Coast’s most inspiring and beautiful locations, the Scarborough Hotel.
Over the coming months, the Gallery will host a variety of eight week exhibitions featuring some of the South Coast and further abroad’s best artistic talent spanning all styles. All art will be available to view during the exhibition dates and everything will be available for purchase by the public. As part of the inaugural exhibition Matthew has handpicked two amazing South Coast artists; Mai Nguyen-Long & Rudy Kistler to show beside his own works. This talented trio promise to cater to a wide variety of tastes and inspirations that will help make the Gallery a must see destination for art enthusiasts across the country.
“The goal for me was to open a gallery and combine an amazing location with amazing local artistic talent,” says Matthew, “I would like to showcase the depth of talent on the south coast alongside interstate and international artist, while also creating a destination for locals and tourists to lose themselves in.”
