Work is underway to repair a landslip which has come dangerously close to the path, and to homes in Austinmer.
The cliff face fell away at Slade Park, taking the fence with it. The area has been cordoned-off by orange tape for many months.
“Wollongong City Council is carrying out some essential remediation work on the walking track along the headland between Slade Park and Austinmer Beach.,” says a council spokesperson. “The work includes the installation of a new retaining wall to stabilise the soil and measures to improve drainage in the area.
“Due to the restricted space, we’ve closed the path while the work is carried out. Provided the we get good weather, it’s expected to take about four months to complete the project with the pathway is anticipated to reopen in the spring.”
