Heathcote MP Lee Evans has thrown his weight behind the fight to slow down speeding drivers on Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
Local residents have had enough of the road being used as a racetrack, with cars rolling in their front yard and smashing into parked cars on Scarborough Hill so they are calling for something to be done NOW!
Mr Evans says currently, 4.5 million drivers use the road through the Royal National Park and Grand Pacific Drive every year so it’s vital the road be kept safe, both for motorists, and local homeowners.
Firstly, he’s vowed to discuss the matter with Wollongong Police.
“We need to let the Police and the Centre for Road Safety know there is a problem,” says Lee. “Once enough accidents have been recorded in a single location the area can be deemed a Black Spot and more money is allocated.”
And secondly, Mr Evans says all accidents should be reported, to build up a case so steps can be taken to make the area safe. He says if police are not involved, residents can report the accidents to his office and the Centre for Road Safety.
