Lawrence Hargrave Drive will be closed overnight through Thirroul from Monday August 29 until Sunday September 4 as work continues to upgrade the town centre.
Wollongong Council is replacing the traffic island, to make it safe for pedestrians to cross the road.
It’s pre-formed concrete so the road has to be closed while it is put in place.
The work is part of the upgrade of the Western side of the road from Beaches Hotel to the Arthur Street service station. It includes new kerb and guttering and a new footpath, including two terrazzo art work panels, palm trees, new seats, bike racks and bins.
Detours will be in place from 7.30pm until 5.30am to allow the works to be completed.
