Bulli filmmaker Nick Bolton has been named Best International Actor at the global finals of the Short + Sweet film competition in Los Angeles.
Nick and his wife Jess Milne created ‘The Road to Vagator’, which won Best Film at the inaugural Short + Sweet Illawarra film competition, as well as Judges choice and Peoples choice, securing them a place at the international event.
Nick picked up the prestigious award at a star studded gala event at the Marilyn Theatre on Santa Monica Blvd.
As a result of winning, Nick won a year membership to Casting Networks, a licence of scriptwriting program, Final Draft but most importantly a meet and greet with Casting Executives at NBC Universal
“I made the film with my wife Jess on our honeymoon,” says Nick, ” which took us from Sydney to Hong Kong, London, Dubai and then Mumbai, Goa and Kerala in India.
“It was intended as a fun creative exercise, an artistic document of our honeymoon, and a memoir to my Mum. We never imagined it would be screened, and win, in India, Hong Kong, America, England, Cyprus, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Dubai.
“To now win Best Actor really gives me confidence to pursue more acting, and I can’t thank Mark Cleary and Luke Berman enough at Short+Sweet for giving filmmakers the platform to showcase their work and reach a gobal audience”
Mark Cleary is the founder of Short+Sweet, and is also a Thirroul resident. He attended the gala ceremony in Los Angeles. “I’ve known Nick for over a decade and so am particularly pleased for him that he won, and also thrilled that he is from Wollongong showcasing the talent in the area.”

“It’s a difficult film to describe,” says Nick, “as there is a very big twist halfway through that reveals what the man is doing. It’s a very personal film, a very autobiographical film, and one that resonates with all audiences. Most people will need tissues!”
Nick and Jess are holding a screening of The Road to Vagator, along with their new rock documentary Off the Leash in Chiang Mai at The Heritage Hotel in Bulli, on Saturday 30th November, at 12.30pm. Tickets are free and please register here link https://off-the-leash-bulli.eventbrite.com.au
