Great news for the environment. Switched On Tyres at Helensburgh is taking environmental responsibility for our old car tyres.
They have met some impressive standards to be achieve Tyre Stewardship Australia accreditation.
You may have noticed the billboard on the highway heading north at Heathcote. A mountain of old rubber- and news 50 million tyres are dumped in Australia every year. That’s an ad for Sustainable Tyre Disposal- encouraging all of us to take an interest in where our old tyres go.
The accreditation obtained by Switched on Tyres means they ensure all the old tyres they deal with are recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
That means they’re shredded and re-used as soft-fall in playgrounds, they become tennis courts, shoes, mats, and they’re even working on a method of taking out the steel and converting them into fuel!
The prestigious accreditation is evidence of business-owner Brook Cheffirs’ commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
“When you buy your tyres from us you have the peace of mind knowing your old tyres are disposed responsibly,” he says. “If you want to feel good about where your old tyres are going,
make sure you deal with a business that has been accredited by the TSA.”
