With just two rounds remaining before the 2015 Illawarra Coal League finals series kicks off, there ae still questions to be answered about who will make the top four.
Defending premiers Thirroul looked set to wrap up a finals berth after a win over Wests in round 13, but have since hit the wall with consecutive losses. This leaves Corrimal breathing over their shoulder and still a chance of stealing fourth place.
Thirroul will need to lift considerably when they host the consistent Dapto Canaries at Gibson Park, and heavyweights Helensburgh and Wests get to size each other up at Rex Jackson Oval before a likely major semi-final showdown in the coming weeks.
Both Helensburgh and Wests are currently without key players with many set to return in the coming weeks, so Saturday’s showdown is an opportunity for those currently filling the breach to show they can step up in the intensity of finals football.
The Illawarra Coal Cutters return to WIN Stadium on Saturday, desperate to defeat Mounties to hold their place in the top eight in the NSW Cup.
