It’s been a big fortnight for Austinmer’s Pinecourt Tennis Club, with a new coach, steering committee and club house renovation.
Resident coach for the last 11 years, Pete Theodore has retired to sunny Queensland and passed the reins to Neil Heyme who, ironically has moved down from the sunshine coast. The new President, Gerry Sont is ably assisted by Martin Parmenter as his Secretary along with the new Treasurer David Batson. Also joining the committee is Steven Higson who holds the title of Creative Director.
Each of the gentlemen bring their particular skill set to the club: Mr Sont is renovation crazy and has every power tool ever invented. Mr Parmenter (otherwise known as Mr Punctilious) loves applying for Grants, digesting council guidelines and absorbing the fine print. Then there is Mr Batson, who lives in the digital world and whose dream holiday is a 36 hour, Red Bull infused non-stop tour of Silicon Valley. And finally we meet Mr Higson who is a professional artist and in charge of everything colour, creative, and aesthetic. He brings the yin to their yang.
In only 10 days Pinecourt Tennis club has a website, on-line booking calendar, facebook page and instagram account. The clubhouse has been revamped with new exterior paint colours, court seating, clubhouse furniture and breakfast bar.
Neil Heyme brings to the club his 40 years experience as a coach and best of all, his re-stringing service which is of course open to all tennis players who feel their racquet is losing its panache. Neil also runs his Pro-Shop from the club and can guide you to a new racquet if needed.
Neil is running Free Hotshots Tennis for children under 12 on Sunday August 16th and 23rd from 9am till 11am. Everything is supplied so just turn up. He will also be running free coaching sessions for juniors and adults in the coming weeks so keep an eye on their facebook page for these! The club now includes free racquet and ball hire with any casual court bookings. However, if you are a local you can join as a single for just $75 per year or family $100. Extremely good value considering there is social organised 3 times a week.
