Wollongong Council is planning to start work to increase space at Wombarra Cemetery.
The cemetery is currently at capacity, so Council will landscape around 120 square meters at the south-eastern end, allowing for 560 new interments in a series of ash walls.
The proposed works include new rendered concrete walls, new columbarium (structures with space for storing urns), new garden seating, the re-establishment of vegetation and new gardens.
They’re currently putting together an Environmental Impact Statement and residents are invited to share information on the area’s natural environment and heritage, to assist in Council planning.
Council representatives will be on site at the cemetery tomorrow (Saturday June 15) between 10am and 11.30am. If you’re unable to attend you can have a chat to Council by calling 42 277111 or check it out on the website www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au
