THe 2018 beach season is off to a shocking start.
With flags going up this weekend, a 24 year old man has drowned after being pulled unconscious from the water at Stanwell Park this afternoon.
The man was spotted by boardriders floating face down at the northern end of the beach. They managed to hold him afloat and alert surf lifesavers who helped bring the man to shore.
Emergency services and lifesavers from Helensburgh-Stanwell Park SLSC immediately commenced CPR however he was unable to be revived.
Lifesavers say this is not the start to the season they were hoping for.
“We can’t reiterate enough the importance of ONLY swimming between the red and yellow flags,” says SLS Illawarra spokesman Anthony Turner. “This has not been the start to the season we had been hoping for.”
