Wollongong Council has completed their formal review of the market tender process which saw the Coledale-based founders of the Friday markets in Crown Street Mall lose the contract.
The review was requested HERE following the tabling of a petition of more than 2000 signatures, and the support of Councillor Michelle Blicavs.
A review has now been undertaken by the Office of the Professional Conduct Co-ordinator.
The PCC has found the formal quotation process for the Friday markets was conducted fairly, appropriately and in accordance with Council policy and process.
Council’s general manager David Farmer says the PCC was satisfied there had been no error or omission in the assessment of the four applications and the scoring of each application against the selection criteria was managed appropriately.
“This type of procurement process is standard operating procedure for councils under the Local Government Act,” he says. “What is unique about this particular process is the history of the markets and the level of community feeling regarding the previous operators.”
