progression in the NBN rollout, with parts of the Northern Illawarra now listed as ‘Groundworks Underway’.
A random selection of addresses between Thirroul and Clifton show work is being done to lay NBN foundations.
However north of the Seacliff Bridge, it’s still *crickets*.
Cunningham MP Sharon Bird has welcomed the addition of the new suburbs to the pre-rollout map, but fears we may be given sub-standard technology.
“We need to know if the Northern Illawarra will get fibre-to-the-premise, or the second-rate fibre-to-the-node option,” she says. And she’s also calling on the Government to clarify when the ‘missing’ suburbs will be getting the NBN.
A lobby group has been set up to encourage the fast-tracking of the NBN in the Stanwell Park area, where broadband connections are particularly unreliable.
“While I welcome the information that new suburbs have been added as ‘Build Preparation’, we need to know what we are actually getting,” Sharon says. “I am constantly being contacted by locals. This has become a major issue for thousands of people across our region who are desperately waiting for fast, reliable Broadband.
“Currently, ADSL ports are overloaded and people are frustrated. It’s time the Government came clean and let people know what the plans are, when they will be getting the NBN and what technology will be used.”
