Austinmer is about to smell a whole lot better!
A small, boutique sourdough bakery is opening up on Moore Street- and they’re planning a home delivery service!
The Bread Circle will operate out of the commercial kitchen in the old RSL Club- which is now Austinmer Anglican Church.
Owner is chef Daniel Watts who says they’ll mill their own grains and turn out around 100 loaves every three days.
“We will start in early June by supplying local cafes,” says Dan. “They’ll use the bread on their menu as well as selling whole loaves, but we really want to open up the weekly home delivery service to make it easier for people to enjoy great quality bread.”
Dan is a local boy. He grew up in Bulli before becomming an accomplished chef who has worked internationally, but it was a trip to Collector, near Canberra, that sparked his passion for bread.
“I was helping a friend open a cafe so she taught me about the culture, and gave me a bit to get me started. After that I was hooked- I went away and did a lot of reading about the value of wild yeasts and sourdough- and now I can’t stop!”
The Bread Circle will be up and baking by early June.
