Tonight is Jill Merrin’s last meeting as Ward One Councillor on Wollongong City Council.
The Northern Illawarra Residents Action Group has acknowledged the efforts of Greens Councillor Ms Merrin, thanking her for her tireless and diligent work over the past six years, and acknowledged the importance of protecting our local environment.
NIRAG Secretary Ross Dearden says Councillor Merrin has served the residents of the Northern Illawarra with great integrity, demonstrating her intelligence and care for both constituents and the environment.
“Wollongong’s natural environment including the beaches, coastal pools, wetlands and green spaces are so important to the general health of our community. They are also a major point of difference that makes our city a unique tourist attraction.
“Councillor Merrin’s local knowledge and long history of working with the community has been appreciated and will be greatly missed by Ward One Residents,” he says. “Wollongong Council in general has also benefitted from her passion for the environment and her support of community campaigns.
“NIRAG members wish Councillor Merrin well in her future work and hope the newly-elected Councillors will carry on in her example, and ensure Council takes a more active role in the long term protection and enhancement of Wollongong’s natural environment.”
