New residents and businesses in the Northern Illawarra are being forced to wait until at least September to connect to the internet… because the Thirroul Exhange has run out of ADSL ports.
According to a Telstra spokesman,
the Thirroul exchange exhausted it’s ports more than a year ago… making connection to ADSL virtually impossible for anyone wanting a new internet connection
Now there’s a waiting list.
The NBN WAS supposed to pass through the area last NOVEMBER… however under the current Federal Government, the Northern Illawarra is not yet on the list, meaning it won’t happen for at least another 18 months, which puts the pressure back on Telstra to connect homes and businesses from Bulli to Helensburgh.
The problem is impacting residents and new businesses..which can’t access basic services such as EFTPOS without an internet connection.
A spokesman for Telstra says the exchange is due to be upgraded from September, however local crews are calling for the work to be brought forward to meet demand.
