Two ‘kiosks’ will be set up in the Northern Illawarra this weekend, to talk about the best way to spend more than $150,000 that’s sitting in a Wollongong City Council trust account.
In August 1962, the Stanwell Park Rock Pool Committee was formed in order to have a pool built in the area. After many years of fundraising, it was decided the money would be held in trust until they had enough to build the pool. Then, in 1982, Council decided there were enough ‘aquatic services’ in the region so a rock pool at Stanwell Park wouldn’t be a viable option.
That community money is still sitting there, despite a similar process to this one being undertaken in 2012.
There have been several suggestions including extending the length of Coalcliff Rock Pool, making it deeper and upgrading the surrounding concourse.
Other projects suggested include improvements to Stanwell park Surf Lifesaving Club, or the picnic areas and barbecues at the beach.
You can have your say on how that money should be used by attending one of the ‘kiosks’.
