Grand final time has arrived for our local footy clubs and this weekend closes out the Illawarra Coal Shield with Northern Suburbs Illawarra Bulldogs versus Corrimal Cougars. After 21 years without a premiership win, the Bulldogs are peaking at the best possible time, and are now poised to break the drought.
“To be quite honest, when I first took over the coaching this season, I did have the goal of just being competitive, but as the weeks rolled on I realised that we definitely had a side that had the potential to go all the way.” said Captain/Coach, Ellis Hurworth, “As it has turned out, the boys have really hung in there and we’ve made it through to the grand final.”
“The major qualifying semi-final was the highlight for us – it was do or die. We were coming up against Helensburgh, we’d only played them twice this season and it was one a piece, so we knew it was going to be a hard slog. We got off to a great start and were ahead at half time, but the second half didn’t go our way, and we found ourselves behind on the scoreboard, but the boys dug deep and were able to get it across the line.”
Grand Final details:
Sunday 1st of September, kick off: 11:50am at WIN Stadium.
